“Our family loves going to the market on Saturdays. It’s a tradition. We appreciate that so much of what is sold there is from farms around Ontario, whether it’s cheese, meat or fresh produce. That means it hasn’t traveled so far to get here, and that’s good for the environment.”

who we are

Whether you live in an urban or rural area, the food production and the agri-food system directly affect us all. You may not see farmers or even bring us to mind on a regular basis, but you put the end product from our hard work on your plates at every meal.

Ontario farmers are committed to bringing people across the province the same top quality, tasty and safe food products we want to feed our own families and you can make a commitment to us as well.

Look and ask for Ontario food in stores

When you visit the grocery store, keep an eye out for where products are coming from. “Product of Peru” and “Product of Ontario” might look exactly the same, but you know where the Ontario food has come from and that purchasing it helps support local businesses and the Ontario economy.

Look and ask for Ontario food on the menu

Many restaurants are proud to serve dishes made with Ontario-produced food too. You might be surprised at how many gourmet chefs can use ingredients exclusively from one province!

Learn more about Ontario agriculture and how important it is to all of us

It is important to recognize Ontario farmers and the contributions we make to the province.

When you buy from Ontario producers, you know you are also supporting farmers who are dedicated to a healthy environment. You can feel good about your purchases because they have been grown or raised in environmentally-positive conditions.

Organizations within Ontario’s agriculture sector are regularly looking for ways to reach out to consumers with information about the industry. One organization, Ontario Agri-Food Education, works with the education system to bring such learning opportunities to students in the classroom and invites educators to contact them for more information. www.oafe.org
